We all know that exercise is good for us. When we are stressed it increases our ability to cope with stress. It increases the blood circulation and muscle tone, so our internal organs work better. Everything about exercise is good for us. We also know that if we do not exercise the only likely end would be pain of one sort or another and general health problems. We however, in the majority do not put any importance on other types of fitness - for example the fitness of the mind, or creative fitness.

Like physical conditioning mind conditioning works very similarly. In order for the mind to stay sharp and focused, it needs to be exercised. Things like problem solving, doing puzzles or engaging in a lively debate all contribute to making your mind fit. The more we engage our mind the better we will feel and the better will our ability to remember be. On the flip side we also must give our mind an opportunity to rest and recuperate, when we engage it too much. Meditation and relaxation will disengage the mind from the constant analysis of data and will give it an opportunity to unwind so it can perform better in the future.

Another type of fitness that is extremely important to our overall well being is creative fitness. It is even more rarely paid attention to then traditional types of fitness. Unfortunately people do not realize that being creative not only brings us success in business and professional environment, but also makes us happier and more fulfilled as individuals. All creative fitness really means is the ability to easily generate creative solutions to problems we encounter, the ability to generate ideas or think “outside the box”. The great thing about creativity is that all you have to do to maintain and expand this ability, is to use it on the regular basis. That could include anything from playing in a garage band, to art, to anything else that might spark that creative flow. Because creativity is closely related to self expression, it directly nourishes our soul and general well being. So if we want to be truly fulfilled we must develop the ability to be creative as much as possible.

It is important for us to lead balanced lives, or at least as balanced as we can make them. In order for us to attain that, we have to keep our selves healthy in our body, mind and spirit. Exercising all three of those parts in our life, will get us the happiness we desire.

Ultimate stress reliever

We all know that our lives are extremely stressful. Work day is becoming longer and longer. There are more and more pressures and responsibilities in our family lives. Some of us turn to drugs or alcohol to relieve these stresses; some go the route of exercise. There are benefits and drawbacks to both ways of dealing with stress. And if I had to choose I would probably choose the healthier approach to dealing with this issue.

One of the most important parts of our life is our ability to express our selves. It is tied to all communication, to our general well being. We also are happier and our life seems more complete when we express our selves on a regular basis. Just compare when you were happier, when you were preparing your last tax return or when you were playing in your garage band in your younger days? As a matter of fact self expression is so important that if we do not express our selves it causes us a great deal of stress.

What does self expression have to do with stress relief you might ask? The fact is that we feel least stressed when our life is in relative balance. Since self expression is such a big part of our life, when it is denied or suppressed this causes us a great deal of additional stress; and since most of us do not think of self expression as something really important, we already feel that stress. As soon as we decide to express our selves on a regular basis our lives become magically enriched, we are happier, more fulfilled. The level of stress is greatly diminished almost right a way. We become more complete, integrated individuals.

Go out there and play. Express your self the best way you know how. You need it!
