Three Things To Do To Snap Out Of Depression.

January 28, 2007 on 7:45 pm | In Self Improvement, Personal Development, Depression | 10 Comments

There is nothing in this article that would be considered a cure. There is however my personal experience that hopefully will help someone out there to cope with what they are going through.Depression is a funny thing as it afflicts absolutely anybody. It may have many different root causes. And the fact that you might think it will not happen to you - is bull. I didn’t think it could happen to me, but it did, and out of all things that put me into a depressive state, was one that I did not suspect - stress. Essentially my depression was brought on by a working too hard and burning out.

My depression felt like I lost all hope and did not see a way out. I think that is a typical characteristic that a depression presents. Even though there are more or less severe cases of depression, and I do not think that mine was a very severe, this is what I did to help me slowly get out of that state:

- I wrote.
Mostly about how I felt, and even more about how I wanted to feel. I literarily took a piece of paper and spilled my guts about how crappy I was feeling. There is something about putting your feelings on paper that makes you feel better. I call it a controlled release of emotions.

- I also used a trick that an old psychologist taught me once.
If you get into that “Hopeless” “I see no future” frame of mind, the thing to do is to think of something pleasant. Doing that will take you mind of thinking of despair. I found that it would come in waves, and whenever I would use this technique it would break the negative thought pattern I was in and give me a break. Eventually these “breaks” got bigger and bigger, until finally I snapped out of that depressive state completely.

- I also think that what helped immensely was that I tried to keep as active as possible.
Granted it is pretty hard to motivate your self to do anything when you are depressed, but I found things that I really liked or felt passionate about and did more of those. It is hard to think of how depressed you are while you are doing something that you love.

Will any of those things be a cure for depression if you are ever in that situation? Probably not! But will some or all of those things help you be one step closer to recovery - absolutely.

Balance Your Life With a Feng Shui Cleanse

January 19, 2007 on 3:45 pm | In Self Improvement, Success, Education, Emotional freedom, Personal Development, Passion, Wealth and Get Rich, Goal Setting, Feng Shui | 15 Comments

Feng Shui is an old Asian tradition that was originated somewhere around 256 BC. I am not going to go very deep into the definition of what Feng Shui is, apart from just saying that it is an ancient art of creating environments around us for every day living, business and family. It examines how the placement of objects around us affects our life in positive or negative ways and how interaction with these objects can improve or impede the level of happiness and success we experience in life.

Feng Shui is quite a complicated art, and in order to understand it we first need to clarify a few principals that come into play.

First of all we need to know about Chi. Basic definition of Chi (or Ki) is that it is a universal energy (an energy that is present in all objects at all time). Some scientific explanation for such energy lies in the unified field theory of quantum physics. I am not going to try to explain that, but if you need a further info you can refer to that term in your research.

So in Feng Shui, placement of objects either impedes or promotes the flow of this energy. So in other words, if Chi flows freely in our environment, this also will mean that our life will be happier, healthier and more successful. If the Chi is blocked, we will experience all sorts of difficulties in our life.

How would any lay person benefit from this ancient art? One of the basic tenets of Feng Shui is that we need to balance our life in anyway that we can. A simple way to do that from the Feng Shui point of view would be to un-clutter your life from both objects and emotional clutter.

According to Feng Shui clutter stagnates our life. In stead of flowing smoothly and easily, the Chi that surrounds us and the objects we use in our daily life is obstructed. So when we have a lot of clutter in our life, it will feel as if we are stuck in some or all areas of the daily living. We also might have bad “luck” in our career. Our relationships might feel like they are not going anywhere. This concept can also be applied to the emotional baggage in our life. Too much of it can significantly impede the way our life flows.

What can we do about the clutter in our life? It is very simple. Do a Feng Shui cleanse! Follow these simple guide lines to free your self of clutter:

1. If you haven’t used it in a year you don’t need it.

2. When you are getting rid of clutter, you are in fact making more space to receive new objects - so learn how to let go of things (and emotions)

3. Do it. Don’t put it off. Act and don’t give it a second thought.

Once you uncluttered your self, you will gain a brand new outlook on life. Things will seem fresher. It will almost feel like a weight has been lifted from your chest. And you just might also feel the difference in other areas of your life as well.

Try it, it’s going to be well worth the effort.

The Hidden Power of Mastermind

January 13, 2007 on 6:19 pm | In Self Improvement, Success, Personal Development, Mastermind groups | 11 Comments

I feel extremely passionate about this topic. There is simply so much power behind this concept - it is unbelievable.

What is masterminding exactly? Let me ask you a quick question first. What would be more effective when solving a problem, trying to come up with a solution by your self, or having a group of people help you? The answer is probably best found in this familiar saying - “Two heads are better then one”. To make it really simple we can look at a mastermind group as a “think tank” that helps find solutions to problems that the members of the group face. First pioneered by Napoleon Hill, this popular concept soon gained popularity within the personal development and business circles alike.

When all members of the group are like minded people, this kind of gathering of minds brings a special sort of synergy, and incredible results. If you ever wanted to accelerate your success join a master mind group or form one of your own. Just imagine, every member of the group gets a turn to present his problem to others and they in turn try to find a solution to his problem.

Many businesses use this concept to come up with new ideas or streamline their processes. But I must underline the importance of having a group of like minded people. If there is no chemistry between that group, the synergy I was talking about will not happen.

Another important point to look at, is the fact that the group must have a structure. What do I mean by that? If your group doesn’t have rules which all of the members agree to follow, you will not be able to accomplish anything useful in your meetings. You also would need a person who will coordinate things. Making sure that every issue is fully addressed by all members.

Usually a group like that would meet at regular intervals, be it once a week or one a month. You can meet as often, or as few times, as you want. The important thing is that you do so religiously. Otherwise the whole purpose of having a mastermind group is defeated.

Now days with the power of the internet such meetings can be held virtually, so people do not actually have to be at the same place physically. They don’t even have to be there at the same time. Such groups may be set up as a forum, or a discussion group.

Without a doubt if you succeed in joining such group, or making one of your own, work, it will benefit you on countless levels and is well worth the work you will put into establishing one.
